I'm So Proud!
I found this on-line writing analyzer that is supposed to tell you which famous author your writing style emulates. I put in the story I'd written for the Five Sentence Fiction Challenge using the prompt "ringing" and it responded with this:
Without a doubt, a most remarkably accurate tool!

I got Cory Doctorow. I had to look up who exactly that was.
ReplyDeleteI had heard (or read) the name Doctorow not long ago, but I didn't know who he was, so I looked him up, too. Considering the awards he's won, writing like him doesn't sound so bad!
DeleteWell, that is cool!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know what they look at to decide this. I will have to be careful, though. Lovecraft was known to drone on a bit at times...
DeleteI suppose I can always blame my brother - he brought home a book of Lovecraft stories when I was fairly young (less than 12 years old most likely) and that was when I was first exposed to his writing.
I used my short story "Second Shadow" to take the test. I would also be interested in knowing how their algorithm works to get the decision. I may try it again with another piece of writing to see if I get a different outcome.
DeleteInteresting! Yes, it would be irritating to find out it was just some random number generator pointing to a list of authors.
DeleteNote: For those not familiar, the story Terri used can be found at: http://lunastationquarterly.com/issue-011/second-shadow
